1. What is an eGroup?An eGroup is an emailing facility which requires membership, and where members belonging to a particular group can contact everyone in the group by emailing to a common email address. An email sent by a member to the group will be broadcast to all members belonging to that egroup. Therefore, it may be thought of as a bulletin board, that operates on the Internet. It may also be understood as a hybrid between a mailing list and a webforum since it comes with many more features than an ordinary mailing list. Some of the leading free eGroup services are Yahoo! groups, MSN communities, Googlegroups, etc. Back to Top2. What is Konkani Catholics?KonkaniCatholics is a free eGroup registered with Yahoo! Groups. Back to Top3. Who may join Konkani Catholics?Anyone who has Konkani for his mother tongue and is a practising Catholic may join Konkani Catholics. This egroup is meant for all Konkani speaking Catholics of Goa, Mangalore, Udupi, Karwar, Mumbai, all the places in between and around, and those spread around the world, who would like to live and grow in the holy Catholic faith in obedience to the teachings of the Church. While for admission, it is necessary that one have Konkani as his mother tongue, it is not necessary that one be fluent in it or know how to speak it. Back to Top4. How do I join Konkani Catholics?Since Konkani Catholics reserves its membership only to Konkani speaking practising Catholics, one is required to fill up a simple questionnaire to show that he is eligible to be part of KonkaniCatholics. ID to be part of KonkaniCatholics?You may submit any email ID but only a Yahoo! email ID will give you access to all the features of the eGroup. A non-Yahoo! ID will only be subscribed to the group's email list. Back to Top6. What features does one get at Yahoo! Groups?Yahoo! Groups provides with a Message archive, direct web Posting, member Chatting, Files section, Photos section, Links section, Database section, Polls section, and a Calendar. Which email ID should I use for Konkani Catholics?Since we are on a yahoo group, a yahoo ID works best as it gives full acess to the group's feature. Other email IDs may be used too but unless they are related to a yahoo ID, they will not allow you to access the group's feature and will merely remain on the mailing list. For practical reasons email IDs from Sify.com, Rediffmail.com, Indiatimes.com, Catholic.org, Emirates.net. Back to Top8. I'm subscribed on a non-Yahoo ID. Is there any way I can still access all the group's features?Yes. But you will still require a Yahoo! ID. You can use your Yahoo! ID to access the group's features and your non-Yahoo! ID to send and receive group mails. In order to do that simply login to your Yahoo! ID (Create one if you don't have one), and set the non-Yahoo! Yahoo! Groups gives you the choice of four message delivery options :
Individual emails - Receive individual messages. The format of messages in KonkaniCatholics is plaintext which means you cannot see colours and graphics in your messages. Back to Top11.
